New Responsibilities for Hatoyama….. Kuruo…
There is more than one ‘Hatoyama’ getting busy with new responsibilities after the success of the DPJ in the recent election. Obscure comedian Hatoyama Kuruo, 35, who lives in a 4 1/2 tatami wooden house with his wife bears such a striking resemblance to the new Prime Minister to be that his fortunes are completely turning around.
Apparently ‘Hatoyama’ had been working for Beat Takeshi as an assistant, using the name Abesada Chuji. Takeshi recently asked Abesada to put on a suit and change his hairstyle into the iconic Hatoyama-esque style for one of his TV programs, and the legend has grown since then… The TV offers and magazine interviews have now been keeping him busy for the first time in his 17 year career, in what is a tough world of trying to become a famous comedian in Japan.
Abesada now goes by the stage name ‘Hatoyama Kuruo’, a play on words that uses Kuru (come) instead of the Iku (go) in the DPJ leader’s name. It is uncertain at this stage how long his career will last, given the short terms of many Japanese Prime Ministers. ‘Hatoyama’ will certainly be hoping, along with his political doppelganger, that the term of the nation’s new leader will mirror the longevity of a Koizumi rather than a Hosokawa….
