MLB Cafe Tokyo – First Major League Themed Restaurant
Well it worked with the Hard Rock Cafe. And there are plenty of sports bars around. So why not put the two together. Oh, and while you are at it, lets throw in a wedding facility as well… Such will be the MLB Cafe Tokyo, which opened today in Ebisu, across from the Ebisu Garden Place (English map here).
The 1,600 square meter, 3-story complex will show live MLB games, and will feature cuisine based on the regional foods of the various MLB teams. Hot Dogs from NY…? I tried looking up a web site for menu info etc., but apparently this wasn’t high on their to do list, because there doesn’t seem to be one (if anyone finds one I’ll add it here later…). There’s just the press release and announcement at Sunrise Japan (both in Japanese).
According to Japan Today, lunches go for about 1,500-2,000 yen, with dinners between about 3,000-4,000 yen. The facility is expected to serve some 100,000 people per year, and I guess they hope to cash in on a lot of weddings with baseball caps and uniforms instead of veils and white dresses… There will also be a shop, of course, selling officially licensed MLB merchandise, as well as entertainment events and likely the odd MLB player or two….

Well the place is owned and operated by the News Deli company which is owned by a sun tan salon company which would explain the lame opening tactics and lack of any website etc.
It will be closed in 12 months for sure, the has been celebrity chef Masa will not help them either, this place is destined to fail miserably.
