Toyota 8th Biggest Global Brand: Business Week
In its annual list of the 100 Best Global Brands, Business Week has placed two Japanese brands in the top 20, with Toyota the highest ranked at 8 (down 2 places from last year). The second placed Japanese company is Honda, up two spots to 18th. While Japan has two brands in the global top 20, the US holds down the top 4 spots, with Coca-Cola at number one, followed by IBM, Microsoft and GE. Coca-Cola holds the number one spot for the 9th consecutive year.
The other main Japanese entries in the top 100 were Sony at 29, Canon at 33, Nintendo 39th and Panasonic at 75. All of the Japanese brands except for Toyota and Sony were up from 1-4 spots over last year’s list.

Toyota executives are currently testifying before Congress about the safety issues that have led to the recall of millions of vehicles. They insist that “We are confident that no problems exist with the electronic throttle control system in our vehicles.”
